Through a new $160 million agreement with Motiva, Kyndryl will streamline IT services, power cloud-first strategy, and lay the foundation for digital transformation for the largest oil and gas refinery in North America. Motiva’s crude capacity is 630,000 barrels per day.

Faced with supply-chain disruptions and ever-tightening oil and gas reserves, Motiva and its industry peers are under more pressure than ever to ensure the smooth, predictable delivery of energy to customers. In fact, a recent report by ABI Research found that oil and gas companies will spend more than $15 billion by 2030 on technologies that scale and adapt their business model to address market and supply fluctuations, modernize aging infrastructure, and improve network security.

Digital transformation has quickly risen to the top of many CIO agendas in the oil and gas industry. According to Gartner, 85% of CIOs in this space are now responsible for building a "change-enabling" technical platform that is more agile and resilient in support of shifting markets and business models. Further, 79% said they are now working to foster a stronger change leadership culture across the IT organization. The report also cite the importance of strategic vendor partnerships to design and deploy the right technologies.

Kyndryl is uniquely positioned to help Motiva and its employees navigate these increasingly complex operational challenges. Our collaboration will simplify and strengthen its technology foundation and shift more of its business to a flexible, reliable and secure cloud environment. In addition, Motiva will leverage our data analytics and workflow automation capabilities to help make employees more productive, improve back-end processes and return more value to its customers.

As the world’s largest IT infrastructure services provider, Kyndryl is quickly expanding its capabilities and reach into high growth areas. Within our first 100+ days, we’ve signed dozens of new customers and numerous strategic alliances with Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and other industry leaders.

Matt Milton is President of Kyndryl United States.
